Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve is damaged at any point, leading to symptoms such as pain and reduced flexibility due to the nerve being compressed. Various conditions can contribute to sciatica, including disc herniation or bulging, degenerative disc disease, sprains and strains, spinal stenosis, pelvic injuries, and Piriformis Syndrome.
As the sciatic nerve spans a significant portion of the lower body, pain concentrated in this area may be indicative of sciatica. At Nandish, we will conduct a thorough full-body assessment to pinpoint the precise cause of your pain before devising a tailored solution program.
Individuals who may encounter sciatica include:
  • Those involved in traumatic accidents, such as car collisions
  • Individuals with habitual poor movement patterns
  • Pregnant women or those who are overweight
  • People engaged in physically demanding occupations
  • Regularly active individuals or athletes who overuse soft tissues and joints
  • Those with jobs requiring prolonged standing
  • Inactive individuals

Various symptoms are associated with sciatica, including:
  • Pain localised to one side of the lower body
  • Weakness in the leg muscles
  • Muscle tightness or numbness
  • Reduced range of motion in the hip
  • Hip pain
  • Burning, shooting, stabbing, or dull pain
  • Chronic pain persisting for over 12 weeks
  • Pain exacerbated by inactivity
  • Sudden pain in the lower body
  • Intense pain radiating from the low back into the buttock or leg

When experiencing pain, your body signals the need for attention. Ignoring it can be detrimental. Chiropractic care employs techniques to rebalance the body's soft tissues and joints, restoring proper structure and movement, alleviating pressure on the nerve, and promoting comfort.

Chiropractic services for sciatica treatment are accessible to almost anyone due to their gentle, safe, and natural nature. Chiropractors possess a comprehensive understanding of the musculoskeletal system, enabling them to design treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.

Various evidence-based chiropractic services are available, ensuring patient comfort and confidence throughout the process. Common chiropractic techniques to address sciatica include:

  • Chiropractic adjustment or spinal manipulation: Realignment and balancing of the spine to reduce undue pressure on the nerve.
  • Soft tissue therapy: Deep tissue treatments to naturally restore and mend damaged ligaments, nerves, tendons, and muscles, eliminating restrictions.
  • Dry needling: Insertion of tiny needles over affected soft tissue to enhance healing and recovery.
  • Exercise and stretching: Promoting strength and flexibility, nurturing joint and soft tissue health.
