Why is posture so important?

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a thousand times – don’t slouch and sit up straight! Social distancing has left most of us spending more time at home than usual – and that means more time on the couch, so practicing proper posture is more important than ever! After all, proper posture isn’t just for practicing good manners. It’s critical to your overall health. Here’s what you should know about posture.

Balance

An important part of proper posture is balance. Next time you stand up, do a quick check-in with yourself. Is one leg bearing more weight than the other, or is your weight distributed evenly? Are you standing with your legs crossed, which causes your hips to move out of balance? If you aren’t balancing your weight properly, your muscles and spine end up working double time to compensate for the imbalance. Pay attention to your posture whether your are sitting or standing and be sure that your pelvis is aligned. To help maintain proper alignment, see us at Nandish Chiropractic for an adjustment.

Alignment

Alignment and balance are two birds of a feather. In order to be well-balanced, your spine needs to be properly aligned. Whether you are sitting down or standing up, your head should be looking ahead, your shoulders should be back just slightly, and your hips and knees should be straight. The chiropractors at Nandish Chiropractic regularly treat patients with hunched shoulders and forward head tilt. These ailments are often the results of constant use of computers and cell phones, which only increases as we spend more time at home. With regular chiropractic care, you can keep your spine and neck in proper alignment, which will benefit your posture (and overall health and wellness!).

Activity

Many of us have been feeling lazier than usual, but our bodies crave movement. Our bodies were designed to move and thrive with regular movement. In fact, without regular movement, the body degenerates. Stretches, exercise, and regular chiropractic care help keep your body functioning optimally. The health of your spine is crucial to your overall health and wellness and practicing proper posture is an important element of that. To learn more about how you can improve the health of your spine.
